Shaking yourself to, you resolve to enjoy this last summer with Ben before he goes and hold fast to the possibility of him, deep in your heart. You open your autograph book to find what he bade you not read until after he left, and there read:

All can write Autographs, but few paragraphs; for we are mostly no more than names.

With a heavy sigh, you close the autograph book and open your journal. A written hour later, you decide to find Austin and ask to borrow his new copy of Longfellow's Kavanaugh. Just as you exit your bedroom, none other than your brother himself rounds the corner.

"Emily! I was just on my way to fetch you. Come, I need your assistance in the garden; and there is someone I'd like you to meet!" he exclaims, grasping your hand.

You walk downstairs and outside to the garden, wondering whom Austin has brought home from school this time.
